Everything is Personal

Dr Rachel Knox of the Four Pillars of Health

Episode Summary

Straight out of Portland and fresh off her recent TED Talk, Len and Jon welcome Dr. Rachel Knox, a certified Cannabinoid Medicine specialist and clinical Endocannabinologist who left Stumptown for the schools of the east at Duke and Tufts, only to find the practice of medicine she and her fellow students were being groomed for wasn't matching her expectations of what medicine should be. Dr. Knox describes her journey with Len and Jon as she found modern medicine to be big business designed to manage chronic disease while keeping patients sick. To that end she and her siblings became committed to doing medicine differently, and took up Endocannabinology and the study of the most "important physiologic system" in the human body, i.e. the endocannabinoid system. Dr. Knox also discusses health equity, pathological prescribing, medication cocktails and laundry lists of prescription drugs, and the four comprehensive pillars of economic, environmental, human, and social sustainability. Along with Project CBD, the Doctors Knox, nailing down her favorite genre of music and color of her walls growing up, Dr. Knox expands on the benign nature of cannabis and plant medicines, how cannabis can wean patients off prescription drugs, or find relief from the "dizzy" side effects of toxic therapies. Len and Jon also load up on their favorite laugh out-loud comedies ("I am serious, and stop calling me Shirley.") and cap it off with a bulked-up, Blink-friendly edition of Have You Heard.
